Photo Review – “Painterly”, March 2, 2021

To view the submitted images, please click HERE.

The canvas is wide open for this particular photo review, where we encourage you to turn a favorite photograph you’ve taken in the last 2 years into something resembling a painting, or “painterly”.

You may use ANY software (or none at all) to achieve this effect, including mobile apps found in the AppStore or the Google Play Store or elsewhere. To find these apps, type “painterly” in the search box of the above-mentioned apps.

Your image will be judged on the impact it makes, image quality, composition, and the story it tells (Why did you make this image? What emotion, mood, narrative, idea and or message were you trying to convey?).

You may admire a famous painter or style of painting and try to emulate that style. Or you may find that a particular reflection you captured already has that painterly look. Composites are also welcome. Again, the canvas is wide open.

As in all photo reviews, your image must be one that has not already won an award in a previous photo review or exhibit at RPS, and your image must have been made within the past 24 months from the date of the photo review. Thus, an image made before March 2, 2019 will not be accepted.

Our judge for this photo review will be Judy Host, an Atlanta-based Commercial, Editorial, Portrait, Dance Photographer and Educator. You can view her website HERE. You can also view some of her work on Instagram at @judy.host.
