Bring your camera, favorite lens, tripod or any photography gear that you would like to share, talk about, learn about, or ask other photographers for help with settings or operations. Use the social time to “talk photography” with other members… have fun, enjoy!!
Our July photo review will occur on July 11, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. The theme for this review is Action. Remember, you must be a current RPS member in order to submit images for review. The image may not be older than 24 months at the time of the review. Members may submit one digital image for review and one print image (no frames but stiff enough to display on an easel). Submit your images no later than 11:59 PM, July 9, 2023 (July 7th is preferred).
Remember there are several types of action shots: Those that “Freeze the Action” using fast shutter speeds, for example a humming bird’s wings; and others that show action by using slow shutter speeds and panning the camera (moving the camera’s lens to follow the moving subject). About our judge: Brandon Magnus
Brandon Magnus is an award-winning photographer who spent the first part of his life growing up in Hawaii and Orange County. After graduating from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, he moved down to North County San Diego to pursue his photography career and worked under sports photographer Donald Miralle.
In 2014, Magnus was selected as one of the 100 students and young photographers in the world to attend the prestigious Eddie Adams Workshop XXVII in Jeffersonville, New York. That year, he also became a full time staff photographer for the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) where he photographed fight events, behind the scenes moments, and portraits. During his time with the UFC, Magnus covered over 100 live UFC events in 5 continents and produced content for fight posters, digital ads, and billboards used around the world. In 2018 he accepted a role as the Photography Manager for the San Jose Sharks and SAP Center, where he covered games, concerts, community events, media days and built their Digital Asset Management System.
Magnus’ work has been featured in many recognized publications, including ESPN, Sports Illustrated, The Players Tribune, Hockey News, New York Times, Rollingstone, Time, Men’s Health, USA Today, Vice, and many others. Magnus mainly photographs action sports ranging from UFC, NHL, NBA, NFL, MLS, WWE, PGA, and other extreme sports as well as portraits and commercial work.
On his free time he enjoys surfing, traveling, attending concerts, and of course being able to spend time with his friends and family.
Magnus now works full time as the Senior Manager of Photography for the AMB Sports + Entertainment which oversees the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta United, and Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
He currently resides in Atlanta with his wife, daughter, and son.
