Join us for a weekend filled with many and diverse photo opportunities covering history, art, cityscape and nature! We will see a 1840s covered bridge, a very colorful art installation, walk the streets of a midsize town, explore Georgia’s Grand Canyon and visit the second home of a great president.

We will meet at the Marta Parking Lot at GA400 Exit 8 on April 11th  at 08:00am and car pool to the Red Oak Creek Covered Bridge near Woodbury, GA.

Red Oak Creek bridge was built built in the 1840s by  freed slave and noted bridge builder Horace King who built many bridges and other structures throughout the Southeast. We will have lunch at a restaurant in nearby Woodbury and then continue to the Pasaquan Art Installation near Buena Vista, GA.

Pasquan is the brainchild of Eddie Owens Martin. It is a unique and very colorful mixture of pre-Columbian Mexican, African and Native American symbols. We will have a guided tour of the facility and then explore it on our own.  After photographing in Pasaquan, we will drive to our hotel to check in.

Later in the afternoon, we will take pictures at the Columbus Riverfront and downtown Columbus. We expect to see architecture, art installations, white water kayakers and people. Dinner will be at one of the many restaurants in Columbus.

On Sunday morning, we will drive to Providence Canyon State park to be there as early as possible. Sometimes called “Georgia’s Grand Canyon”, Providence Canyon has a colorful and unique landscape. After hiking and exploring the canyons, we will have lunch in the Columbus area.

On our way home, we have the opportunity to visit the Little White House State historic site. Little White House was built by Franklin D. Roosevelt while he he was still governor of New York. He liked to come to the Warm Springs area to seek relief from the symptoms of polio which had struck him in the early 1920s. He spent some time there during his presidency, connecting with local people. He also died there on April 12, 1945.

We expect to be back in Roswell late afternoon.
