One of the things that makes photography a successful art form is that it can show a viewer things in a different way. As photographers, we notice small details, weird juxtapositions and the small oddities of daily life. We use many tools to capture our subject matter in a different way: a variety of lenses, changing our camera angle, using long exposures, or very fast ones.

About our judge: Katheryn Kolb

Kathryn Kolb was raised in the rural environs of Charlottesville, Virginia. In 1983 she received a BA in History from Emory University in Atlanta, concentrating on ancient world history. First working as a free-lance photojournalist, Kolb later shifted her focus to fine art images of natural forms and landscapes. Her work is known for strong graphic elements, abstract constructions and unusual focus. In both film and digital image capture, all images are designed in the viewfinder without significant post processing.
